Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1
Each generation brainwashes their children whether they will admit it or not. What they have brainwashed with is evident for generations after. Using a washing product that produces cleanliness is vital, for what you teach your children today will affect their lives forever. Forever is not a careless or dramatic word. It is a word that means lasting or without end, so forever includes eternity. Brainwash your children with the proper detergent; their eternity may depend upon it.
Look at our country today and you will see evidence of brainwashing that is destroying a nation that was founded upon Godly principles. The consensus is that educating children in Sciences, Languages, Mathematics and the Arts make a well-rounded education, but at the end of life these things hold no value in view of eternity. If young people have not understood Who is God and if they have not developed a relationship with the only One that could save their souls then their education was null; it was of no value.
By the grace of God, He continues to draw souls to Him so long as we breathe and have our being (Acts 17:28). I know people whose spiritual education was neglected or misdirected in their early life. Because of the humility they showed in coming to the cross for the first time, as educated adults, I am reminded of God’s love and drawing to each of us. He wants to and is able to save our lives for all eternity. Yes, our souls never die. While we live in these bodies He will draw us unto Himself as closely as we desire. Jeremiah 29:13 says And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. God put within each person an awareness that He is necessary. Dirty brainwashing has attempted to cover that, but never can. The heavens will still declare! Psalms 97:6: The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
Your children will be brainwashed, intentionally or unintentionally. Everywhere I see the effects … everyday and everywhere. Rather than talking about others, whose lives I do not know as well as my own, I will tell you my story of brainwashing, from the time I married Harry.
I met him on our wedding day, a saved woman, although I did not know Biblical terminology. At that moment, I could not have told you when I was born again. I would have possibly told you that I did not like that phrase because I did not. My familiarity with the phrase came through the mouths of very loud-mouthed and unloving classmates that I generally found offensive. I had no idea that it was Bible terminology. Years later, I love the phrase “born-again.” What a perfect description of what is required and what happens.
My early brainwashing at home thoroughly convinced me that every word in the Bible was true, and I will tell you: I am grateful for that foundational teaching and belief. It prepared me for the next 30 years of ongoing brainwashing.
The first thing I noticed about the church I began attending after marriage was that everything taught was supported by Scripture. That everyone followed along in their own Bibles seemed a bit unnecessary, but that is what they did. No harm there, even if I thought it was a cultural thing. I could do that too. Something supernatural was happening, although I did not know it; I could not have known it. The Bible itself has power. I give you a few of the Scriptures that reveal supernatural influence to our lives.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. THE WORD WAS GOD.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH; THAT IS JESUS.
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. WE ARE BORN AGAIN BY THE WORD OF GOD AND THAT WORD LIVES FOREVER.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. THE WORD OF GOD IS QUICK, POWERFUL, SHARP AND IT DISCERNS.
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT IS THE WORD OF GOD.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. THE TRUE WORD SANCTIFIES.
Since Autumn of 1987, I have attended no less than 3500 preaching services, More than likely, the accurate number is over 5000, because I must include special services, revival and mission conferences. Five thousand times I opened my Bible as I was being taught God’s Word and I followed along, discerning that the teaching was in line with the Words of God. My brain has been washed repeatedly by the Word of God. Just as we must cleanse our bodies daily, so our brains and hearts too.
My brainwashing continues. Daily, our minds are inundated with what is hip, on-point, trending, contemporary and fashionable. Those words, by themselves, are not negative. The problem arises, when what you are putting into your brain is not clean. That is easy to test. Ask yourself some questions:
- Would you rather read the paper, (as we used to say) or surf the internet for content on Sunday morning or go unto the house of the Lord?
- Who do you follow on Instagram or your preferred social media? What about them holds your interest? There will often be characteristics of what or who holds your heart move into yours. I promise you this; if your social media is examined one day after you leave this earth, those following after you will know what held your heart.
- Who are your friends, and what makes them attractive to you?
- Do you struggle with societal beliefs when they oppose the Scriptures? Sexuality, marriage, male and female roles.
- Do you think God changes? He said He did not change, so the surety of Scripture is compromised if we do not agree? One example is women pastors; God’s position on this has not been updated.
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:13-15
These verses conjure a vivid image in my mind of people professing Christ, on their own terms, walking hand-in-hand to a fiery hell, thinking they are okay because they are part of the majority. How could so many be wrong? That is what they think, because they did not know or believe the Scriptures.
Being part of a minority is no assurance of being right either. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 2 Corinthians 13:5
My faith and knowledge has grown in the past 30 years. This past Sunday, as our pastor preached through the morning message, I was deeply touched. I reminisced how this kind of teaching and preaching saved my life, gave me a better life than the one I planned. This kind of preaching supported Harry and I in giving our children a foundation to build them into people that God could use.
The supernatural aspect is this: Our plan was not so contrived. By simply going to “the house of the Lord” often, and as part of our family together time, we all benefited. My children and their husbands love God and they are teaching my grandchildren to do the same. I hope that my grandchildren see in their parents and grandparents people that are happy and that God made us that way because of the time spent with Him and His people. Faith is serious business; you won’t regret giving yourself over to it.
I want to tell you a little more about this past Sunday. My son-in-law, Zachary taught adult Sunday School. I am still thinking about some comments he made about the Holy Spirit. We think of the Holy Spirit as that “still-small-voice” that speaks to us. Let us not forget that voice Has all power. Pastor Zachary spoke more eloquently but this is what I am considering, though I plan to ask him to reiterate a few thoughts to me about his lesson.
I have mentioned to my friends before, that my pastor is someone that can preach for an hour, never go down one rabbit trail, and hold everyone’s attention. One of the verses he used yesterday was one we all know. Romans 12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Will you be transformed or conformed? I made the decision long ago, but yesterday was a great affirmation to refresh and renew my commitment.
Ladies, we need that. An hour spent listening to my pastor has far more value than just about anything else a Sunday morning could offer. By giving myself over to that message my transformation continues, strengthening me to avoid conforming to the world.
Every choice matters. Every church service where God’s word is being faithfully taught matters. How we spend our days is, indeed, how are lives are spent.
As I wrap us today, I add a Call To Action. I encourage you to give me an hour of your time so that you may deeply understand why my life changed without my even being aware it was happening. Our church archives all of its sermons, but I want you to see and listen to this particular sermon via the link below. If you have a problem with the link, visit Facebook, Open Door Baptist Church Clermont, the 09 August service. Go to the 40 minute mark. (The link below does seem to be working at this time.)
My India sings just before Pastor Stewart preaches. She sang a song I’d never heard. I thought she wrote it because of the words and because I know how she thinks. Later that day, I ask her, “What about the song?” She told me that she would have liked to have shared the story about the song but she knew she could not or she would have cried and could not have sung. The 2nd link will tell you about it. Grab a hankie. India sings just before the message at the 40 minute mark.
Even if you have a fabulous pastor, please do listen to this message. It will be a good use of your time. Count it as a little extra scrubbing, a deep clean. Let yourself be brainwashed!
